WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - Loved ones gathered Sunday at a special fundraiser to honor an Amherst teen who was killed last year from a hit-and-run accident.
The Alix Rice Peace Park Foundation hosted the event at the Main-Transit Fire Hall this afternoon.
Jon Fulcher from the Alix Rice Peace Park Foundation said, “I think it shows what a community we have here in Buffalo and everyone has the ability to believe in hope. I think it’s huge to see so many people come out and support such a great idea.”
Donations will go towards a skatepark the foundation hopes to build in Alix’s honor. The foundation says they have received about one-quarter of the donations needed to build the park.
So far, no location has been decided on but they are hopeful the skatepark will open in Amherst by next Spring.

The event included door prizes, silent and Chinese Auctions, live music, along with food and refreshments. Former Sabre Andrew Peters also made a guest appearance as well as members of the Buffalo Bandettes.
