GETZVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Buffalo Urban League is celebrating its partnership with GEICO to fund a job training program and establish a new scholarship fund.
At Friday's event, GEICO presented a check for $25,000 to the Buffalo Urban League. The organization’s job training program will receive $20,000 and the remaining $5,000 will be set aside for a scholarship fund.
In a release, Lieutenant Governor Duffy said, "I commend GEICO for their ongoing partnership with the Buffalo Urban League, which for years has benefited countless youth, families, and businesses in Western New York. Investing in training our young people for the jobs of the 21st Century and transforming our schools to give our student's a world-class education are an integral part of Governor Cuomo's agenda to rebuild New York's economy, and it is a pleasure working alongside companies like GEICO that not only create jobs, but give back to local communities."
"We're really pleased to continue our partnership with the Buffalo Urban League, which plays a huge role in serving the community and empowering citizens through job training and education programs," said Seth Ingall, regional vice president of GEICO's Buffalo office.
GEICO also announced Friday they are looking to hire 800 people in 2013 with positions ranging from sales and customer service to claims and support. Some of the positions require you to be a licensed insurance agent or adjuster, but GEICO says it will train applicants and pay licensing fees.

"We're looking to hire 800 people this year, which is the largest number in any given year that we've ever targeted. We think we can do it, and the truth of the matter is we'd take 1,000 if western New York could get them to us. The only thing that holds us back is we're a little bit choosy on who we select, and we need as many qualified applicants as we can get," said Geico Regional Vice President Seth Ingall.
