TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - GM is revving up a new engine line at its Tonawanda plant. The automaker announced Thursday morning that it’s producing three revamped engines.

The new EcoTec 3 engines will come in the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The engines will provide more power, more torque and improved efficiency.

Steve Finch from the Tonawanda Engine Plant says they will be adding 500 jobs to the plant, including to 100 to 200 new hires sometime next year. The new jobs will bring total employment at the local plant to 1,700 jobs.

GM says this is part of the $400 million investment they made in April 2010.
