GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - Flames broke out in an apartment on Baseline Rd. in the Town of Grand Island around 6:30 Monday morning.
Fire crews say the fire broke out in the living of the apartment and was quickly brought under control in approximately 15 minutes.
An 18-year-old resident suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to ECMC for further treatment while the family's dog inside the complex at the time of the fire died.
Damage is estimated at $75,000 to the building, and $30,000 to the contents.
According to G.I Fire Investigator Chuck Berlinger, the cause appears to have been from the careless use of a lit candle in the living room.
