BUFFALO,N.Y. (WIVB) - Western New Yorker's gun rights advocates are banding together to make their voices heard, and they did just that Saturday at several gun rallies held.
Conservatives and local members of the Tea Party held a gun rally, that was one of hundreds held across 30 states Saturday, at Niagara Square as part of National Day of Resistance.
Nationally, crowds were rallying against the 23 executive orders President Obama signed last month that are aimed at tightening this country's gun control laws.
Advocates spoke out against the SAFE Act otherwise known as the nation's toughest gun control law.
Jim Ostrowski who attended the rally said, "I believe every citizen should have the ability to defend himself, his family, his community, and his country if necessary. Criminals don't comply with the law- the law abiding people will comply with the law, disarm themselves, but the criminals will not."
Attendees at the rally say they plan on challenging the law in the courts and with education.
Another gun rally was held in Olean at Lincoln Park where hundreds of people rallied against the new gun control law.
The Cattaraugus County Tea Party and the Coalition for the Preservation of the Second Amendment hosted the rally.
Several elected officials attended including Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard who thinks the SAFE Act does not address the right issue. "We don't adequately enforce the laws we already have. We have to go back to the mental health issue and spend some time there," said Howard."
