AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - A big merger could be a prescription for disaster at local pharmacies.

Congresswoman Kathy Hochul opposes the merger of Express Scripts and Medco. She says the combination will create a benefits manager that would stifle smaller pharmacies.

Rep. Kathy Hochul said, “Not only would it be hard and difficult for competition, but also very difficult for seniors. If they drive these individuals out of business, where will our seniors go for answers to questions?”

Hochul says the merger would control 40 percent of the market. The Federal Trade Commission is overseeing the matter.
