Hochul v. Collins nears the finish line

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The hotly contested race between Congresswoman Kathy Hochul and former Erie County Executive Chris Collins is still too close to call causing both to fell a bit optimistic about their numbers.

Congressional candidate Chris Collins says, "We were surging and the best time to finish strong is on election day and there's where we feel we are. It's just a snapshot but when you're out and about you can feel the energy and you see the signs out. So we've got a lot of confidence."

"This is up for grabs. In the most Republican district in the state of New York. To still be at this point, back in the spring people said we never had a chance. So I'm so delighted with the faith all the people in this district has put in me," says Rep. Kathy Hochul.

With the latest poll showing this race neck and neck, both candidates are trying to get out and talk to as many people as they can, convincing them that they are the right person for the job.

Both candidates had a day full of stops to meet with voters Sunday to tell them about their message before Tuesday's election.

Collins, hammered home his GOP stance and political ties to Mitt Romney who holds a lead in the district according to the same Sienna Poll.

If you're satisfied with where we are today, go ahead and vote for Obama and Hochul. If you agree with me we need a new direction of growing jobs in America, we need to get our deficits and debt under control, that's Romney and Collins," Collins said.

Hochul meanwhile, told voters about her independent streak and the need for bi-partisanship. She says, 'People know that I've stood up to the President on issues where I disagree and I'm with him when we do agree. I'm not so partisan that I can't accept one side might have better answers than the other and I'll tell you, look at my record."

Both candidates do agree this race could come down to the wire.
