Holiday travel season revs up

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The holiday travel season is revving up, with people heading off on their Thanksgiving journeys.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the Buffalo Niagara region is $3.90. That compares to about $3.65 last year at this time.

That’s good news for travelers, AAA projects that Thanksgiving travel nationwide will increase the fourth straight year.

The majority of the increase is expected to be from people driving, people traveling by air is expected to drop this year.

Of the 43.6 million people traveling this Thanksgiving, 39 million of them are expected to go by car. The AAA holiday forecast also says that despite the increase in travelers, spending by those on the go will be down by ten percent.

Despite that number, half of those hitting the road for Thanksgiving plan to hit the stores to shop.
