BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Girls Varsity Basketball team is “Shooting For A Cure,” at Pembroke High School.
The team held a benefit basketball game, where they say they surpassed the team’s initial goal, and will now be presenting a check of $4,000 to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Friday, the team will be presenting their check in their custom-designed pink uniforms.
“We are a small school in a rural district and our team has to consistently work to raise money for most everything we need, including our warm-ups and team sneakers,” Team coach Mike Wilson said. “But this time, the girls wanted to do something different, something they felt was truly helpful for our school and those affiliated with our Pembroke community who have been so widely impacted by breast cancer diagnoses. To their credit they put together an amazingly successful fundraiser in partnership with some very generous businesses and organizations.”
