BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A southern tier jury is definitely getting an eyeful at the granny assault trial in Batavia.
The defendant claims it was in accident, but new pictures from Walmart surveillance cameras may prove otherwise.
Prosecutors presented some powerful evidence, store surveillance video that is shining negative light on the defendant’s claims.
Twenty-six-year-old Jaquetta Simmons says she accidentally punched the 70-year-old Walmart employee in the face on Christmas Eve, several witnesses say that’s not what happened, and now for the first time we are seeing for ourselves.
In the left-hand side of the screen, in the included video, you can see Simmons pull back her arm and then punch Grace Suozzi in the face, sending her flying across the floor. What you can’t hear is the language involved, which witnesses say was laced with profanities.
Suozzi had asked to see Simmons receipt, following store policy. The store surveillance camera continued to catch the action outside the store. The video shows Simmons running, chased by customers, in the parking lot, where customers used their own vehicles to box her car into the handicapped spot where she parked.
