BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Closing arguments will begin Thursday morning in the murder trial of Ali Mohamed Mohamud.
The Buffalo security guard is accused of brutally beating his ten-year-old stepson Abdifatah Mohamud to death with a rolling pin in the basement of their home.
“The evidence in this case is overwhelming. This case is simple, straight forward, and uncomplicated,” said Prosecutor John Feroleto on Monday.
Erie County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Diane Vertes says Abdifatah died of a "massive beating." He had also been stabbed, strangled, and nearly drowned, in the time leading up to his violent death.
The description of the crime was so graphic, Abdi's mother had to leave the courtroom
John Feroleto said, “Abdi was alive for every single blow. Every single moment of that horrific assault.”
Buffalo Police said the defendant had told them where to find key evidence, yet Mohamud's attorneys told to jurors he was denying the murder charge.
“We're confident after you hear all evidence, you will find Mr. Mohamud not guilty of murder in second degree,” said Defense Attorney Lana Tupchik on Monday.
