BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The wheels are in motion to move Women and Children's Hospital out of the Elmwood Village.
Kaleida released plans to build a brand new hospital on the growing medical campus, featuring a state of the art emergency room, trauma center and heli pad.
In an environmental impact statement released by Kaleida, they say there are limited options for the expansion of the hospital. However, business owners like Chris Van Every say relocating would have a big impact on the economy.
Van Every, the owner of No Noo Ramen Bar, said, “"It will affect every business within a ten-block radius. There's over 2,000 people that are working almost daily, not to mention the people that come to the hospital. It's going to affect everybody if they move.”
Some Elmwood Village residents feel the area will thrive on, even if the hospital moves.
Elmwood Village Resident Nicole Sawyer said, “"It's the place to be; it's nice. There's something for everyone. I don't think they'd need to have that to stand on their own.”
