Kenmore Katie predicts early spring

KENMORE, N.Y. (WIVB) - This morning in Kenmore, it wasn’t Punxsutawney Phil who was looking for its shadow, it was Kenmore Katie.

Kenmore has its own twist on the Groundhog Day tradition where residents from the village waited for Katie to see its shadow or not.

Kenmore Katie is a life size character who presents the Kenmore Village Improvement Society.

Children got to read special groundhog poems and even had their photos taken with the character.

Melissa Foster from the Kenmore Village Improvement Society said, “She encourages the children to think about things like shadows, and the weather, and important things, natural things like this but to also consider allowing wild things to be wild. She's our mascot, she comes out every year, and she prognosticates about the weather, much like Don Paul.”

Saturday morning, Katie predicted an early spring.
