Land is shovel ready for businesses

NIAGARA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A state program is hoping to bring more business to western New York. The key in the case is that the land is what's called shovel ready. The Niagara Airport Commercial Park in the Town of Niagara has been designated with this title through the New York State shovel ready certification plan.

The 216-acre site is now pre qualified for for future development and could be used as future home of a high technology manufacturing businesses and or computer data management centers. More importantly though, those on hand at Thursday’s announcement say it's because of the strong relationship between the public and private sector that land like this will entice businesses rather than steer them away from Niagara County.

“If we're going to draw businesses and new investments into this community then we have to have truly shovel ready sites, because the competition is so great and the margins of profits are so tight people want to start their work immediately and with this site we'll be able to do that,” said Sam Hoyt, Empire State Development Regional President.

Not to go unnamed SGL Equities, who owns the land, provided financial support all to make their land shovel ready for whatever company decides to set up shop in Niagara County.
