BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The lingering NHL lockout has now forced the cancelation of all pre-season games in September. The lock out could cost downtown businesses some big bucks.
Lagerhaus 95’s Mark Slagle said, "Because the season didn't happen I stopped hiring, and affected future jobs and the staff that I have are gonna get less hours because of it."
Some bars, like the Pearl Street Brewery, have been through this before and are confident their business will adjust to having no hockey.
Pearl Street Grill and Brewery Assistant Manager Carmen Huffnagle said, “We did okay in the lockout just a few years ago. We always have a good turnout for all the home games but we also are a banquet facility. We will feel the sting a little bit but it's nothing that can't be controlled with clever scheduling."
Fans may be having as difficult time understanding and dealing with the lockout.
Sabres fan Steve Holliday said, “The owners and the players got to get real with each other and bring it to an end. Places like restaurants are suffering and its economic hardship for these guys.”
