BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Since Local Restaurant Week was introduced in Western New York, participation has tripled with over 200 locally owned eateries offering special deals.
This is the 8th time Buffalo has had Local Restaurant Week where people can enjoy a nice evening out, and don't have to worry about the hefty bill to follow a delicious meal.
Scott Ockler, J. P. Bullfeathers General Manager says, "It's really nice when we're working with programs that are involving the entire community. It just gives such a nice feeling, and everyone feels like they're working together. You're really not putting any extra effort into anything other than going out to eat, and enjoying yourself."
Local Restaurant Week 2012 is shaping up to be the most profitable year, ever since the concept was introduced to Western New York in 2009.
Dolce Vita Owner Ross Runfola says, "Usually, maybe I'm only busy on the weekends, but now I'm busy every day I'm open for lunch and dinner."
News 4's Rachel Kingston also caught up with Joyce Ormsby from Gramma Mora's Authentic Mexican Restaurant who said, "We have many repeat customers that have become friends throughout the years. They've been coming for years and years and years and they love the food. It's very authentic, and they can't find it someplace else."
The promotion offers families a chance to enjoy dinner out, even on a tight budget. It is especially important now -- with regional unemployment at its highest level in 12 years.
Runfola says, "They get a lot of bang for their buck for the $20.12 deal. It's tough, and that's one way people do cut back."
Restaurateurs really appreciate customers investing their money in home-grown businesses.
It makes the difference between surviving the tough economy -- and thriving, in spite of it.
Ockler says, "It's nice because you're putting the money back into your community that will hopefully be used to do something that you can benefit from in the future."
There is still time to take advantage of Local Restaurant Week deals; the last day is Sunday, October 21st.
If you're not sure what kind of food you're in the mood for, check out the Local Restaurant Week site for a full list of participating restaurants.
