BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - (RELEASE) Thousands of local breast cancer survivors, volunteers, businesses and community members will unite to fight breast cancer and save lives at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on October 3rd. The walk is, traditionally, one of the largest breast cancer awareness events Western New York.
Last year, more than 6,000 people participated in the local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk raising more than a half million dollars. Proceeds go to support the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research, education, advocacy and patient service programs. More than 1300 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Western New York each year. The disease claims almost 300 lives annually in the region.
Who:
Families, friends, coworkers, survivors and anyone who wants to join the fight against breast cancer.
What:
The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is a 5K, non-competitive walk to raise awareness and proceeds for the fight against breast cancer. Making Strides is annually the area’s largest breast cancer awareness event.

The Peace Bridge will be illuminated pink on Saturday and Sunday in honor of the Strides walk.
