Malls were packed for President's Day

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - If you tried to get a little shopping done this President's Day, you probably ran into some packed parking lots.

At the Fashion Outlets, parking came close to hand-to-hand combat.

Ricky Pyzikiewicz and Tracy Hackett came up from Buffalo to celebrate their relationship, but parking was an adventure.

Pyzikiewicz said, "They said, oh, we are parked in the next aisle, so come around and we will give you our spot. The lady is like, you guys are not taking the spot, because this is our spot!"

While Western New Yorkers were out bargain hunting for Presidents Day, it is also a holiday for Ontarians--Family Day. And officials at Fashion Outlets told us shopping for the weekend was reminiscent of Black Friday.

Mary Whelan said, "Saturday and Sunday was incredible. The parking lot was packed, the stores were very busy, the traffic flow was very nice. It seems like everybody came for a long weekend."

Canadian shoppers came from as far as Toronto, and beyond like Anthony Peterkin and Caterina Vescio.

"Better deals, cheaper stuff, for good quality. You have more variety here also?  I would say so," added Caterina Vescio.

Vescio said, "And with the loonie running a little bit higher than the U.S. dollar these days, it is another reason for Canadians to take full advantage of the holiday."

"Go loonie, go! Yes, definitelty. I knew ahead of time that I was coming down this weekend, so I got it at a good rate," said Anthony Peterkin.

While American shoppers, like Terrese Roberts, didn't get the benefit of a stronger dollar, she did get what she came for.

Terrese Roberts said, "Michael Kors." And she said she got it for a real great price too!
