BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Many people joined together Saturday afternoon to help make Buffalo's East Side a healthier community at a Breast Cancer walk.
The walk took place around Masten Park to raise awareness about Breast Cancer that included music, healthy snacks, and the opportunity to schedule a mammogram.
Organizers of the event said the importance of getting screened cannot be understated and if you can't get to a mammogram machine, then they will bring one to you.
"Breast cancer is the number one diagnosis among African American women and the second leading cause of death among African American women. It's usually diagnosed later, and therefore a more aggressive cancer," says Laurene Tumiel-Berhalter from the UB Department of Family Medicine.
The Mammography Unit will be at the Jefferson Family Practice and Jericho Road Practice throughout the next few weeks for patient follow-ups.
