Man attempted to kill troopers, guilty

BATH, N.Y. (WIVB) - The man involved with the case of attempting to murder troopers back in September of last year, was found guilty.

At Steuben County Court on Friday, Richard E. VanGorden was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder for shooting at two state-troopers one year ago.

39-year-old VanGorden of Addison was also found guilty of two counts of felony tampering with physical evidence, criminal mischief, criminal use of a firearm, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon first-degree reckless endangerment.

He was acquitted of two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

It is possible he could face up to a lifetime in jail. VanGorden will be sentenced on January 3, 2013 by Steuben County Court Judge Joseph W. Latham.
