SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York man has been sentenced to 2½ years in federal prison for kidnapping his daughter and taking her out of the U.S. for more than four years during a custody fight.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports (http://bit.ly/WbRB6T ) that 52-year-old Jeffrey Shipman, formerly of Liverpool, was sentenced Friday. He had pleaded guilty in August to international parental kidnapping.
Shipman admitted flying to London with his 3-year-old in 2007, intending to obstruct her mother's lawful parental rights. He went on to Germany, France and Thailand, turning himself and the girl over to authorities in Bangkok in March.
The girl is now 8, and has been reunited with her mother.
