PEMBROKE, N.Y. (WIVB) - Jeffrey Hamill, 34, was arrested Saturday for aggravated DWI while driving in the Town of Darien. However instead of getting a ride home from jail, he got behind the wheel again.
Hamill was driving on Route 238 in Darien when his car spun out, flew into the air, and slammed into a tree.
Brian Schollard, Assisstant Chief of the Corfu Fire Department said, “Apparently, someone came to meet him and instead of that person taking him home, he drove his own vehicle and that person followed him and saw him go off the road. It’s very frustrating, something like that, that’s 100% preventable.”
Mercy Flight flew Hamill to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with a suspected head injury.
Charges in the crash are pending ; authorities believe alcohol was a factor.
