DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) - With the help of supporters and donors of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation national Wheelchair Donation Program, 19-year-old Joseph Swarthout will receive a new $21,000 wheelchair.
Swarthout is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and has been just getting by with his old 7-year-old wheelchair in disrepair and bad condition.
The family had a difficult time receiving a new means of transportation for their son after Medicaid denied their claim.
The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide SUPPORT for people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries. As part of that mission, the foundation offers a national Wheelchair Donation Program that donates custom, power wheelchairs to individuals facing medical and financial hardships.
