BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - One in every four men in New York will have to deal with prostate cancer, so a local lawmaker is looking to raise awareness.

State Senator Antoine Thompson hosted a prostate cancer awareness march Saturday morning in Delaware Park to shine a light on the disease.

Doctors were on site to provide free screenings and encourage men to get tested annually to catch the cancer in its early, treatable stages.

Sen. Antonine Thompson said, "We're doing early detection today, so they can live long."

Senator Thompson says it's especially important for African American men to get yearly screenings, because prostate cancer is their second-leading cause of death.
