Marineland ordered to reveal burials

Park must report details on animal burials on site

NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. (WIVB) - Marineland is coming under close scrutiny by the Canadian Ministry of the Environment after reports that the attraction has mass animal graves on site.

The government has ordered a comprehensive assessment of the entire park and will conduct interviews with current and former employees.  However, the ministry says the burden is on Marineland to disclose exactly what is buried on site.

The Toronto Star recently published a series of reports with former Marineland employees who indicated there were mass animal graves on the park property.  This followed earlier published reports of animal abuse and poor living conditions that forced the government to more closely inspect the facilities.

The Star reported in December that there were four mass graves on Marineland property, one with more than 1,000 animal corpses.  This information was revealed by former park supervisor Jim Hammond.
