Marineland has filed a $1.25 million lawsuit against a former trainer who reported that the attraction's killer whale was bleeding from its tail.
The Toronto Star reports that Christine Santos was sued in papers filed in the Ontario Superior Court in St. Catharines. The suit claims Santos knew the whale's cuts were minor and she calculated her claims to disparage Marineland and it business.
The Star published reports in October that that according to Santos, Kiska, the killer whale had been bleeding, even gushing blood and that her training had regressed. Santos had been fired the day before the report was published. The lawsuit states the whale had not lost her training.
The Star reports that Santos worked at the park for 12 years and is the trainer featured kissing the beluga whale in the long running Marineland commercials.
