TORONTO, ONT. (WIVB) - Las Vegas entertainment top brass from MGM Resorts International are trying to get a gaming toehold in Toronto.

MGM has hired a Toronto firm to do their lobbying.  The resort's public affairs division confirms that the company is considering investing as much as $6 billion in a project that could include hotels, convention center and casino gaming.

Entertainment giant,  MGM Resorts International, has hired a Toronto firm to lobby for creating a major Las Vegas-style casino and resort, city officials said. The Toronto Globe and Mail reports MGM hired a local firm, Sussex Strategy Group, to make its case at city hall

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. reported a few weeks ago that it is planning to build a casino in the Metro Toronto area while closing many less profitable slots locations.  One of the slot operations to close is the slot operations at Fort Erie Racetrack.

MGM  operates 15 luxury resorts in Nevada, Mississippi and Michigan and has a 50 per cent stake in four other properties in Nevada, Illinois and Macau
