BUFFALO, N.Y (WIVB) - He was a miracle baby - born after just 23 weeks, weighing in at only 1 pound 9 ounces and given only a 2 percent chance to live.
We were there when Robert Amabile, affectionately known as Baby Bob, turned one. From there we watched Robert continued to grow - and inspire people across Western New York.
"I just live everyday like it's my last because I wasn't expecting to live when I was born with a 2% chance of survival," says Baby Bob.
Today Robert is a healthy happy and adventurous 20 year old young man. He has become an ambassador for the March of Dimes - after the organization developed a drug that saved Robert's life.
Baby Bob is a student at D'Youville College, studying physical therapy and is also a talented singles tennis player.
He not only overcame the odds in life, but also participated in a Buffalo tradition - the chicken wing eating contest at Coca-cola field. "I love chicken wings," Baby Bob says.
Baby Bob's mother, Estelle Amabile says, "The chicken wing was probably bigger than his arm or his leg."
He might not have won this competition, but Robert continues to make his parents proud.
