BUFFALO, N.Y (WIVB) - Many fire agencies throughout Buffalo gathered together this morning at the Garden Village Plaza for a school bus extrication drill.
Fire crews from Cheektowaga, West Seneca, and Lancaster were in attendance at the event. Firefighters learned how to safely get kids out of a bus after a crash in the event of a potential crisis.
South Line Fire Company Training Chief Jason Tolsma says," It's very important. We don't often get to do this on a daily basis. Fortunately, school buses pretty much are safe to begin with for all the kids that are on them but if there is an event that the bus happens to be in an accident, we have training experience in case there's an accident involving the bus."
The buses and cars were donated to allow the drill to be conducted at the lowest cost possible.
