TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Town of Tonawanda crematory is still searching for options on where it can move its crematory. News 4's Al Vaughters has learned the crematory will not move to a location it had considered on Cooper Avenue. Amigone has decided not to pursue the location.
A statement from Amigone CEO Vincent Amigone reads in part, "The proposed move was described as a "win win" by local officials; keeping the operation in the town for families we serve while addressing the concerns expressed by our neighbors. Unfortunately, the neighbors in the new proposed location have expressed opposition to our operations and the New York State Crematory Board has expressed opposition to our moving the operations."
The location on Cooper Avenue is zoned industrial, but according to members of the local Clean Air Coalition, the location is directly adjacent to residential property.
Operations at the Amigone Crematory on Werkly Road were shut down earlier this year, following years of complaints from neighbors. Amigone says the attorney general’s environmental staff found no health issues associated with the crematory.
