BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo-based New Era Caps is unveiling an item that features new technology. Baseball season is just around the corner, when the players take the field, they will look a little different. They also will be protected from the sun.

New Era Caps is unveiling their new Diamond Era caps. They aren’t available to buy yet, but when you’re able to get one, you will definitely notice it’s lighter and more breathable. The caps also wicks away sweat, but most importantly it has 50+ UV protection that helps deflect the sun’s rays. This will help players as well as the fans who sit for the three-plus hours to watch a game during the summer.

“It's just a little something to give yourself a little extra protection. You still need to be wearing SPF, but this is still something to keep you a little bit cooler,” said Katherine Kulczyk of New Era corporate communications. “We're always looking to innovate. Everyone wants to have something lighter, more comfortable more breathable. This is our first step in really stepping up our technology game.”

The caps right now will only be worn for major league spring training games and pregame.
