NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WIVB) - The City of Niagara Falls is tightening its belt once again, this time imposing a spending freeze on non-essential items.
The city council Monday night passed a resolution calling for a moratorium on travel, training, consultants and all meals. The resolution passed by a 3-2 vote.
Niagara Falls is feeling the pain from the nearly $60 million owned to the city by the Seneca Nation of Indians and New York State. In 2009 the Senecas put a halt to payments disputing the way that the state is placing and expanding ‘racinos”.
The city is hoping to save $800,000 by putting a freeze on non-essential spending.
