Careless smoking sparked apt. fire

Niagara Falls WIVB.com - The Niagara Falls Fire Department received a fire call at the Lafayette Square Apartments around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The 12 to 16-unit apartment building suffered heavy damage to the front of the structure.

Several people were forced to find somewhere else to stay.  By the time firefighters arrived on scene all of the occupants had exited the building safely. 

The firefighters knocked down the fire quickly in difficult, cold conditions.  No firefighters were injured battling the fire which investigators say was caused by careless smoking.  There is no word at this time on a damage estimate.
