BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Several accidents happened in a short amount of time Monday morning as freezing rain and snow came down hard.

Morning commuters had more than just snow to deal with as freezing rain caused icy, and slippery roads during rush hour.

Frank Donlin of Elma said, “It was a very, very slippery this morning and everybody was driving extremely slow.”

There was an accident on the 190 in Niagara Falls; State Police say a vehicle was traveling northbound, crossed the median, and hit an unmarked trooper car. Authorities say the trooper was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The operator of the other vehicle was unharmed however authorities say they will likely be charged.

A Brinks truck also turned over from the slippery roads on Jamison Rd. in Elma where authorities were on the scene within minutes.

An eye witness said the driver was fishtailing before he lost control of his truck causing his vehicle to go into the ditch and flip on its side.

There were no serious injuries reported from the accident.

Bob Burns said, “Just be cautious, careful out there because the weather is probably going to change all day back and forth.”

If there’s anything western New York has learned within the past two weeks of dangerous weather, it’s to be cautious with the always-changing weather.
