NYS Settlement nets thousands for WNY

ALBANY, NY (WIVB) - A New York State settlement with a large medical waste disposal company is directly benefiting two western New York correctional facilities.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced a $2.4 million settlement with Stericycle, Inc. for overcharging nearly 1,000 New York government entities.

Stericycle was automatically programming price increases without giving any notice to customers.

The Wyoming County Correctional Facility will receive nearly $13,000. Collins Correctional and Gowanda Correctional facilities will both receive more than $6,000 in the settlement.

Here is a list of other agencies in the Southern Tier and Buffalo Region expecting refunds:

Buffalo Region

1.       Wyoming Correctional Facility, Attica – $12,932.15

2.      Town of Lancaster Police, Lancaster – $8,601.12

3.      Collins Correctional Facility, Collins – $6,310.67

4.      Marilla Fire Company, Marilla – $4,540.33

5.      Buffalo Police Department, Buffalo – $4,106.52
