Jorden's home empty, search continues

LAKEVIEW, N.Y. (WIVB) - Authorities are currently searching for 49-year-old Dr. Timothy Jorden in Lakeview, the person of interest connected to a fatal shooting inside the Miller building at ECMC on Wednesday.

A SWAT team member carrying what looked like an automatic weapon would not allow News 4 to continue down the road the doctor lives on in Lakeview. The Erie County Sheriff's Air One helicopter was in the air, flying over the area. But it turned out the doctor was not home.

Authorities converged at Jorden's house around noon Wednesday. SWAT team members surrounded the home and a National Grid crew cut the power. Hours later, the same crew returned to the scene to restore power when it turned out Jorden was not inside the home.

News 4's Luke Moretti talked directly to Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda, who says police are following other avenues as they search for the doctor. Police left the doctor's house Wednesday  night, taking with them a GMC pickup truck.

Police say Dr. Jorden is described as a black man who is 6'2" and 250 pounds. Police say he is considered armed and dangerous. Dr. Jorden may be the gunman who walked into the DK Miller building at ECMC and shot 33-year-old Jackie Wisniewski at least four times, killing the single mother.

The shooting put the hospital and two schools on lockdown for hours, and the Miller building was re-opened more than nine hours after the shooting. Parents came to the school to retrieve their children, worrying about their safety.

Wisniewski was a clerk at the hospital, studying to be a nurse. Heather Shipley was her close friend and tells News 4 that Dr. Jorden was "a psycho." She says that Wisniewski told her the doctor had put a GPS tracking device in Wisniewski's car and once held her captive in her home for a day and a half, wielding a knife. More on that story here.

Outside Jorden's residence, we ran into Harry Smith, who told us, "He is the calmest, friendliest, easiest going guy you can imagine."

Smith has known the doctor for six years and is currently putting an addition on the doctor's home. When Smith arrived for work Wednesday morning, he was turned away by police.

"He didn't do it. I know him too well. I can't believe that would happen," Smith said.

Other patients of Dr. Jorden said the doctor was fantastic. But Cheektowaga Police say he was involved in two other domestic cases, unrelated to Wednesday's victim, in 2003. Those details here.
