BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Federal Government says thousands of public swimming pools should stay closed until they replace potentially deadly drain covers.
If the pool drains aren't properly protected, their 500-pounds of vacuum force could trap someone underwater leading to a drowning.
One million drain covers were just recalled.
They were sold between 2008 and last month and they're being blamed for a dozen deaths.
Some of the drains are in kiddie pools and even in-ground spas.
The Drain Cover Recall Hotline, at (866) 478-3521, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
