DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) - Friends and family members gathered in Dunkirk this afternoon to pay tribute to a local soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice to his country.

Army Sergeant Jonathan Gollnitz was buried in Texas last week, but today the Fredonia native was honored near his hometown.

The 28-year-old was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

Before his tour with the Army, Gollnitz served in the Navy for 6 years.

His family described him as being fully devoted to both his country and his 4-year-old son he leaves behind.
