HOLLEY, N.Y. (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing a plan to clean up contaminated soil and ground water at the Diaz Chemical Corporation Superfund site in the western New York town of Holley.
The EPA's proposed plan calls for the use of a heating technology to treat six areas of soil and ground water.
The agency has scheduled a public hearing Wednesday evening at the American Legion hall in Holley. Public comments are being accepted until August 31.
Diaz Chemical manufactured specialty chemicals for the agricultural, pharmaceutical, photographic, color and dye and personal care products industries at the site. A chemical mixture was released in 2002 when a safety valve ruptured. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and abandoned the site, leaving large volumes of chemicals behind.
