Police say Jorden did not cross border

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - Buffalo Police held a press conference Thursday morning to reveal new details in their continuing investigation and search for "person of interest" in the fatal shooting at ECMC, Dr. Timothy Jorden.

Buffalo Police officer Martin Motley, who is on long-term paid leave, was seen leaving the home of Dr. Jorden early Wednesday morning. Motley was leaving the doctor's Lakeview home with about $5,000 in cash, a revolver and a Rolex watch. The revolver was identified as the officer's personal weapon, not his service weapon. Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said that their investigation into why the officer was there is still ongoing and that there may be some "departmental charges" pending, but would not comment on possible criminal charges.

"Right now, we're just investigating to why he was there. I would not call him an accomplice," Derenda stated.

Derenda also answered questions whether Jorden could have possibly fled across the border into Canada. Derenda said that police "know for a fact" that Jorden did not cross the border. He did say evidence was obtained from cameras at the hospital, but would not elaborate.

An alert has been issued to every law enforcement agency across the country, including local, state and federal offices, to be on the lookout for the 49-year-old trauma surgeon, who is a former Special Forces soldier. The commissioner did not speculate on where Jorden could be located right now.

The F.B.I. is now involved in the search in case Jorden has crossed state lines. Authorities say all four of his vehicles are accounted for, and they do not know what he could be using to get around.

While police still consider Jorden to be armed and dangerous, they don't consider him to be a threat to the general public as they still do not believe Wednesday's fatal shooting was a random act.
