NEWFANE, N.Y. (WIVB) - Police are tracking a bank robbery suspect Wednesday afternoon, in Niagara County.
The Bank of America on Main Street, in Newfane, was robbed in the noon hour. Schools in the area were put into lockdown, as a precaution.
Sheriff James Voutour explained, "Because we're only a block away from the Newfane School District we contacted the school. We have a school resource officer there, we contacted him. He in turn informed the school of the situation. There were no threats to the school, there was no weapon displayed here at the bank, but as a precaution the school chose to lock down until the end of the day."
The suspect is described as a black male, between 30 and 35 years old, wearing black sunglasses, a black leather jacket, a black skull cap, and dark-colored pants. He is around 5'7" tall and weighs between 170- to 180-pounds. The suspect escaped on foot, and did not display a weapon.
Anyone with information should call 438-3394.
