Prepping for Labatt Hockey Tournament

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Saturday afternoon, people were busy working on the Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament for next weekend at the Erie Basin Marina.

Workers from Pace Landscaping made nine ice rinks for the tournament while braving frigid temperatures and high winds.

This year the ice rinks are handmade and with the current weather conditions, its makes it more difficult to do so.

Michael Pace from Pace Landscaping said, “The ice surface is really bumpy so we've got a machine that grinds down all the bumps.”

As long as the temperature stays as is, the ice rink will remain in great condition.

Once the ice rinks are made, they will be maintained until the 96 team tournament begins on February 9th.
