OLCOTT, N.Y. (WIVB) - There were several reports overnight of a mystery “boom” in Niagara County.
Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies say they received calls from Olcott, Lockport, Baker, Newfane and even Canada inquiring about the cause of the the loud noise. They say calls came in around 12:45 a.m. Friday.
Multiple people said they heard a loud noise and some reported their windows were shaking. Friday morning the United States Geological Survey reported the cause was a 2.5 magnitude quake that happened about four miles east northeast of Olcott.
Niagara County residents were talking about the loud "boom," on News 4's Facebook page Friday morning.
Carrie Anne McPhail-Smith said she, "Felt it in Newfane 1:30 a.m., felt like the whole house shook."
"Heard it and felt...very loud rumbled our house and scared our kids..." Crystal Wittcop posted.
