BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Police in Batavia want to know how a young woman wound up dead inside her car.
At this point, detectives are only calling this a death investigation. Authorities say they have not yet determined what took the life of the young mother.
Police were called to the parking lot of Manor House on Main Street in Batavia, an apartment building for senior citizens. 24-year-old Alyce Huntoon was found in her car, unresponsive. She had suffered no signs of obvious trauma, such as bleeding, wounds, or bruises.
Huntoon was taken to nearby United Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
"We do have a prelimnary report from the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office, and at this time, there is no obvious sign of physical injury that resulted in her death," said Batavia Police Chief Randy Baker.
Huntoon is a mother of two who worked at a restaurant in town. While the cause of death is so far undetermined, police are awaiting toxicology tests that could take weeks.
Det. Sgt. Patrick Corona said, "We have items of evidence we're going to be submitting and we're awaiting toxicology. But we're not just going to wait three months for that; we're going to proceed with the investigation. We have people tracking down her timeline."
Police did say Huntoon went to work Wednesday night and was found in her car by a Batavia resident. Officials at the senior apartment building where Huntoon's car was found say the young woman had no connection to the building or the residents. So why was her car parked there? It's one of the many questions police hope to find an answer to.
