TORONTO, ONT. (WIVB) - A major Toronto roadway has been deemed a ‘significant hazard to public safety’.

The Gardiner Expressway was recently inspected by an engineering firm after several incidents of concrete falling from the roadway.

The Toronto Star reports that the IBI Group made an independent analysis, pointing to problem zones in the underside and sides of the roadway.  However, Toronto city inspectors found no significant signs of deterioration.

Engineers are recommending that the city implement protective measures- even installing debris netting or closing areas beneath the Gardiner to pedestrians.
