Round of snow punches parts of WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The City Mission and St. Luke’s have issued a Code Blue, which means temperatures are cold enough to open the shelters for those who need it this evening. In Buffalo, there isn’t snow but things are a whole lot different in southern Erie County and the southern tier.

Southern tier residents were punched with yet another round of snow.  Six inches fell overnight.

Springville resident Judy Hickey said, “I didn't want to get up, it's too cold. I looked outside and nope, didn't want to but I knew I had to open the store.”

Once again the shovels were brought out to clear sidewalks, and the plows were back on the road. Route 219 was especially treacherous for the morning commute. With five more inches expected to fall throughout the day, the roads could also be tricky come the evening commute.

It's already been a busy day for those who take care of and monitor the highways and roads. Department of Transportation plow trucks will be trying to clear the snow as quickly as they can. State Troopers will also have extra troopers out patrolling.

“In traffic, maintain a safe distance, reduce your speed according to the weather and pay attention,” said Keith Bell, New York State Police.

While this weather is typical for western New Yorkers, the consensus in Springville is, they're ready to see winter end.

Hickey said, “It's too long. I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't so bad out. But so much wind and snow blowing, it's getting ridiculous.”
