BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Sabres aren't the only ones returning to the First Niagara Center after Terry Pegula announced General Manager Darcy Reiger's contract will be renewed.
The terms of the contract have not been released, however this year will mark Reiger's 16th season with the Sabres in which the team has reached the Eastern Conference Finals four times.
Reiger speaks about the announcement, "Quite honestly, when you are involved with the team in this community, having lived here as long as I have lived here, you are no longer an outside hired GM. You feel an obligation to the community so it creates more internal pressure to get the job done."
Sabres owner Terry Pegula also spoke earlier today for the first time since the lockout ended. "You got to help some of these other teams that are struggling financially. That's how you keep a league or we will be back to the orginal six before we know it. I don't know anyone in our group that was calling to just go ahead and settle," Pegula said.
Settling is one thing they did do, and now hockey will return to the First Niagara Center on Sunday for the first home game of the 2013 season.
