School board discusses closing school

CASSADAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A southern tier school could soon be closing its doors for good. The Cassadaga School Board met Monday night to discuss the possible closure of its elementary school.

It’s a move that could save the district an estimated $450,000. Officials say the district is plagued with rising financial costs and falling enrollment.

Resident Mark Cunningham said, “Saving dollars doesn't always make sense. And I'm hoping that there are potential other alternatives to closing the Cassadaga Elementary School. While it's true that the numbers have been down, it's a community asset."

If the plan becomes a reality, current students would be sent to Sinclairville Elementary starting next year. The school board is set to vote next week.
