BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - News 4 is sending out a consumer alert involving a scam that targets senior citizens.
Senator Charles Schumer says thousand of seniors have reported suspicious phone calls regarding the direct deposit of their social security payments.
The scammers are getting a hold of seniors' bank account information and rerouting the payment to their own accounts.
Senator Schumer is calling on the Social Security Administration to create new safety measures.
