Wind rips roof off Mineo & Sapio

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - Emergency crews responded to reports of structural damage near downtown Buffalo, Saturday morning, after a microburst hit Mineo & Sapio.

The roof of the Buffalo favorite on Connecticut Street near 14th Street suffered damage and the corners of the building were ripped off, causing a total of $75,000 damage.

The storm also damaged 406 Connecticut, ripping the roof off completely, causing $125,000 damage. Firefighters ordered residents out of the second floor apartments in 403 Connecticut, which suffered $50,000 damage. And the flying debris damaged 78 15th Street, causing $2,000 damage.

The airport reported a wind gust of 54 MPH. 4 Warn Meteorologist Bryan Shaw said that the winds were stronger on Buffalo's west side but damage was caused by a microburst. A microburst is a sudden and powerful downdraft of wind. In all, this event caused $252,000 damage.

There were no reports of any injuries. However, officials tell News 4 that come Monday, selective demolition will take place, though it is unclear which buildings will be impacted at this time. Officials do assure that the buildings are all stable for now.
